Taekwondo. This is an all-in-one martial art that combines key elements from other fighting styles into an original fighting style all its own.
The art of taekwondo is not only widely practiced around the world, it is the national of Korea and has even been assigned its own event in the Olympics. In Korean, "tae" means "to strike or smash with the foot"; kwon means "to strike or smash with the hand"; and do means "way" or "path". Hence, taekwondo is loosely translated as "the way of the foot and the fist". Taekwondo uses many forms of punching, kicking, and stances that are good for offense as well as defense. The popularity of taekwondo has resulted in the evolution of the martial art into a fighting style that has come into its own in the present. The martial art is a blending of combat techniques, self-defense maneuvers, a great form of exercise, and also teaches discipline and respect for the body, mind and spirit of the practitioner. Common kicks included the roundhouse, front kicks and side kicks are all used in sparring in taekwondo. You need to be sure you're wearing a uniform that is made for the moves that are used in taekwondo to ensure maximum ease of movement when sparring. There are differences from dojo to dojo but the main components of the martial art remain the same. The general rule of thumb for taekwondo lies in the method of kicking and using the power of one's opponent against them. The bigger your opponent, the harder you can beat them using the brilliant methods of taekwondo. A difference in Taewkown do and Karate is the uniforms they wear. Tkd uses a V-neck pull over uniform which happens to be very light and soft. This is traditional known as a Tae kwon do uniform. Whereas karate uses different weights of Karate gi's such as light & Heavy canvas. Labels: karate-gi, martial-arts by: BestBuyMAS |
