Is circuit training a part of your regular martial arts work outs? Why not? Circuit training is an excellent way to combine high intensity aerobic exercises with resistance training. The great thing about this form of training is that it is applicable for any style of martial arts.

If you have never circuit trained before then let me give you a little run down on it. First off you will set up about five or six different stations which could include push ups, jumping rope, a punching bag, etc. Next you will perform each station for about 60 seconds each until you have completed the entire circuit. Once the circuit is finished you can rest for a couple of minutes and begin again. The goal behind circuit training is to push your self, build aerobic endurance, and improve your power.

You can play around with how long you perform each station, what the station consists of, and how many circuits you perform. This allows you to have a customizable workout, that will never get boring and can help you achieve all your martial arts fitness goals. Here is a list of equipment that is essential, in my opinion, for a good circuit training workout.

Leather Jump rope - Jumping rope is an excellent way to improve your stamina. I have used many jump ropes and feel that the leather ones with the ball bearings work best.

Century Wavemaster XXL - I love putting a punching or kicking station in my circuit and the Wavemaster XXL is a great bag when you cant hag one.

ProForce Thunder Medicine Ball - This is a must have piece of equipment that can be used for so many different exercises.

Other pieces of equipment could include a Speed Bag, Chin up bar, or plyometric boxes. Your stations will be determined by the equipment you have at your disposal.

Here is a sample circuit training that I like to use sometimes. Complete each station without a break.

Kicks on Wavemaster: 60 sec
Medicine Ball Crunch: 60 sec
Jump Rope: 60 sec
Push ups: 60 sec
Punches on Wavemaster: 60 sec

So now that you have the information, get your equipment, and get to training!
