Throughout my martial arts career I have spent quite a bit of money on various products and training aids. Some products were amazing and worth the money, while others I had regrets about buying. As a beginning martial artist it would have been nice to know the thoughts and opinions of the more seasoned practitioners. It definitely would have saved me some money and a bit of trouble. So, I have compiled a list of 5 things that I feel every martial artist needs. I hope this helps you out.
Karate Uniform/ Gi - I have worn quite a few different types of karate uniforms over the years. In my opinion if you are going to spend quite a bit of money on anything it should be your gi. This is something you will be spending a lot of time wearing, so why skimp and go with the cheap one. My personal preference is a heavyweight karate uniform. If you need help picking out your next gi then check out my article A Martial Artist's Guide to Buying a Karate Uniform. Sparring Gear/ Protective Equipment - One of my favorite things in martial arts is the sparring. Sparring gear is another thing that I would never consider skimping on. There are many different brands and styles of sparring gear so make sure that you purchase equipment that is allowed at your school. Some schools allow students to use boxing/ kickboxing gear, so just find out what is appropriate. Don't forget to get a mouth guard and cup either. Bob Body Opponent Bag - We have one of these bags up at our dojo and it is wonderful for training. It gives you a realistic target and will toughen you up a bit if you train frequently as the material is kind of tough. Heavy Bag - A heavy bag is a must if you are looking to develop your kicks and your punches. If you have the money and the space then by all means make sure to get one. Besides developing powerful kicks and punches you can have a great cardio workout too. Belt Rack - This item really won't help your training, but it is something that is really nice to have. You have worked hard training so you should display your belts with pride. I know that seeing my belts displayed always reminded me of where I started and pushed me to work harder. -The Last Ronin- www.associatedcontent.com/thelastronin www.roninmma.blogspot.com www.ehow.com/members/thelastronin.html by: BestBuyMAS |
