Mma or mixed martial arts has sparked a lot of interest in people from all walks of life. Some people take up the sport to learn to fight, some have dreams of becoming future UFC stars, while others just want a great activity that will get them in shape and give them some confidence. Whatever your reason for beginning mixed martial arts you are going to want to make sure you have the right equipment before setting foot in the gym. No matter what level you choose to compete at there is some basic equipment every mixed martial artist needs.
Head Gear - Head gear is a very important piece of protective equipment. It doesn't take all the impact away from each blow, but will spread out the force and protect you from some cuts you could receive. If you are planning on sparring as a part of your mma training then you definitely need to purchase some head gear. This piece of equipment comes in several models. You can go with a more traditional head gear like the Everlast Headgear or the Proforce Thunder MMA Head Guard (which offers more face coverage). Gloves - As a mixed martial artist you will probably train using a few different types of gloves. Mma gloves, like the Knuckle Head Fight Wear gloves, can be used for pad work, bag training, sparring practice, and more. These are a must and probably something that will be required by the gym you train at. You might even do some training in boxing gloves, which will be somewhat heavier and give you a different workout as opposed to mma gloves. Shin Guards - If you are serious about mma then eventually you are going to have to learn to check kicks and toughen up your shins. Shin guards are a good piece of equipment to have, because you aren't going to want to take those hits every training session. Apparel - The clothing you will be wearing during your mma class will most likely consist of a rash guard (spandex shirt) and board shorts. As far as the rash guard goes I recommend a long sleeve one. I don't think it matters either way, but the long sleeve one seems to keep me from getting little cuts and scratches on my arms. There are many different types of board shorts available. One of my favorite brands is Sprawl. Their shorts are very comfortable and Sprawl has been making board shorts for quite some time. Other Equipment - Other items that you are going to want to have would include a mouth guard and a protective cup (for the guys). If you decide to stick it out then there are a lot of things you can add to your list. If you are unsure about whether mixed martial arts is for you then just stick with the basics. You want to at least make sure you are protected. Good luck in your journey! -The Last Ronin- www.associatedcontent.com/thelastronin www.roninmma.blogspot.com by: BestBuyMAS |
