I believe that if you are training in martial arts then you should spend a majority of your time training hard. However there are times when you just need a break and a little bit of fun. Recently my class played a fun little relay game using various training tools and soft combat swords. It was a fun game that both the kids and adults seemed to enjoy, because it was competitive but at the same time we were working hard. It isn't an activity to play every class, but something you can throw in at the end every once in a while.
Here is how the relay race goes. Take 2 of the soft combat swords and place them in the middle of your dojo. Evenly divide up your class and place one team on each end of the dojo. Pick the activity that the person will have to perform and say go. The activities can include things like bear crawls, crab walking, sprinting, skipping, army crawl, etc. It is pretty much up to you what you want them to do. Lets say you picked bear crawl. The first two people will bear crawl to the opposite end of the dojo, touch the line (or wall) and then sprint to their team's sword. The opponents will then engage in battle trying to be the first to tag the other. Once a tag has been made that group stops. Have them put the swords back in place and then the next two contestants will go. This is just a fun activity where you can do some body conditioning and compete as a team to win something (most likely less push ups than the other team). If you are looking for an activity to add to your class then get some soft combat swords and give it a try. -The Last Ronin- www.associatedcontent.com/thelastronin www.roninmma.blogspot.com www.ehow.com/members/thelastronin.html by: BestBuyMAS |
