Not all martial arts instructors have the luxury of teaching out of a lavish school. I know that in the association I belong to many instructors teach out of church gymnasiums, YMCA's, or other places where they just rent the room for the time they need it. This can cause somewhat of a dilemma when it comes to training equipment. If you cannot set up heavy bags, Wavemasters, or other training equipment then what are you to do? The answer is that you need portable training equipment that can be kept in your car and pulled out when it's class time.

If you are in a similar situation and are looking for some training equipment, here are three things that I feel every martial arts instructor should have.

Body Shield - The body shield is an excellent piece of training equipment that every martial arts instructor should have for their school. These targets are light weight and very versatile. You can cart them around in your vehicle and they can be used for all sorts of kicks and striking techniques. Another great feature about the body shield is that it is a relatively inexpensive piece of training equipment.

Focus/ Paddle Target - These targets are another great training tool that instructors can easily carry to class with them. If you have a few pairs of focus targets or paddle targets then you can have many of your students working on partner drills. It is always good to get your students used to hitting something safe and with a pair of focus targets you can do just that.

Sparring Equipment - Sparring equipment isn't something you are going to need the first day of your new class. Once you have taught your students their basic kicks and strikes and feel that they are progressing then you can start to think about sparring. Essentially you are going to want your students to have their own equipment, but as an instructor you are going to need to have a few sets for the new students who don't have gear yet.
