In previous blog posts I have briefly touched on some of the things you can do with a medicine ball, so I have decided to dedicate an entire post to this wonderful piece of training equipment. The medicine ball is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment on the market. They are available in a wide variety of weights, come in rubber or leather, can bounce, or have ropes attached for swinging exercises.

Medicine balls can be used for leg exercises, upper body exercises, abdominal exercises, plyometrics, and more. Pretty much if you can imagine an exercise then you can use a medicine ball to enhance it and make it more difficult. Here are some great exercises that you can do with your medicine ball.

Upper Body:
2 Handed Chest Pass - With a partner pass the medicine ball back and forth. Work on good form and passing with both hands equally. Try to pass the ball back and forth as quickly as possible.

Med Ball Push Ups - Assume the push up position with the medicine ball under your chest. Perform a push up and on the up portion explode with both hands onto the medicine ball.

2 Handed Toss in the Air - Toss the medicine ball above your head. This exercise is like the 2 Handed Chest Pass but instead you are throwing it straight up.

Lower Body:
One Leg Squats - Perform one legged squats while holding the medicine ball on the same side as the leg that is doing the squats. For extra difficulty you can push the ball above your head as you finish each squat.

Walking Lunges - Perform walking lunges while holding the medicine ball under your chin. Make sure to do the lunges going forward and backward for a complete workout.

There you have just a few exercises. There are many more that you can do with the medicine ball. All you need to be is creative and you can have a killer workout that will hit all of your muscles.
