If grip training isn't a part of your martial arts training routine then you probably need to re-evaluate what you are doing. You might be wondering, "Why do I need to do grip training?" If you participate in judo or Brazilian jiu-jitsu then you are going to need a strong grip to grasp your opponent or their uniform. If you are a striker then grip training can help you improve your punching power and prevent injuries from various strikes.

A great way to work on grip training is with a training aid. One basic device that will help you improve your hand strength is a hand gripper. This training tool gives you extra heavy tension, is inexpensive, and is versatile enough that you can take it and use it anywhere. Another martial arts tool that will help you improve your finger strength is the Eagle Catcher. The Eagle Catcher allows martial artists to strengthen each individual finger as well as the thumb. It is a great device for those of you who train in Kung Fu as well as virtually any other martial art.

If you don't have a training device handy then you can make due with some weights, towels, a sledge hammer, and more. There are many ways that you can strengthen your grip and fingers. I would suggest starting out by going to Google and searching "grip training". Just read the various articles and determine which exercises you would like to do.
