I have been in martial arts for quite a few years and have seen many students come through our local school. There have been adults, kids, people with loads of talent, and some with no athletic skill what so ever. No matter what type of student they were, they all had one thing in common--they wanted to become a black belt. Wanting to achieve the level of black belt is a great goal to have; however, in my opinion it should not be your sole purpose for training. Once you have achieved your goal and have a black belt, what next? Do you just quit? Hopefully by the time you are that high in rank you would come to see that martial arts is more than just earning belts. It is a life long journey that can transform you into a different (and better) person if you take your training seriously and have the right frame of mind.
As I said before, martial arts is a life long journey. Your black belt isn't the end of the road, but instead just another marker on the path. The same thing goes with the colored belts you earn. In martial arts everyone starts out the same, as a white belt. Being a white belt is nothing to be ashamed of and you shouldn't try to rush through this period and get to your next belt. Take everything in and build a strong fundamental base. I guarantee that you will be a better martial artist if you do. I guess what I am telling you is to wear your rank with pride. My instructor always says, "No matter what your rank, try to be the best you can be. If you are a yellow belt then try to be the best yellow belt." That may sound funny and you may be thinking, "Why wouldn't I try to be the best?" The point my instructor is trying to make is not to get a head of yourself and to focus on your task at hand. Another way to display your rank with pride is by keeping your old belts and putting them on a belt display rack. A belt display rack is a great thing to have, because it allows you to keep your old belts out in the open (instead of in a box in the closet) and it is a constant reminder of your journey so far. Century Fitness makes two different wooden display racks for either 6 or 10 belts. The belts fit neatly into their own slot and the racks can be mounted on the wall. These items make great gifts and guess what? FREE SHIPPING to the continental US. You can't beat that. So remember, no matter what rank you are wear it with pride and try to be the best you can be! -The Last Ronin- www.associatedcontent.com/ www.roninmma.blogspot.com/ www.ehow.com/members/thelastronin.html by: BestBuyMAS |
